Prostate Cancer UK charity partnership

Prostate cancer kills over 11,500 men every year and also affects the lives of millions more. Our partnership with Prostate Cancer UK is helping to support men and their families across the UK, now and for future generations.

Supporting prostate cancer research in the UK

With a large percentage of our employees being male, this is a great opportunity for us to help tackle what is fast becoming the most common cancer in the UK. We want to support friends, families and colleagues who are going through their own prostate cancer journeys.

One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and this figure increases to one in four for black men. EDF Energy employees are helping to fight this disease and save the men in our lives.

Men, we are with you.

I’m really proud of all our employees who continue to be an inspiring force for good. I’m excited to see everyone in action over the next three years, doing whatever they can to support this amazing charity. Every penny we raise is going to help fund vital life-saving research, support from specialist nurses and much more. Our ambitious target of raising £300,000 over three years will really help this charity to do great things for men and their families.

Our partnership with Prostate Cancer UK

Prostate Cancer UK was chosen by 47% of employees who took part in the charity selection vote in 2019. This partnership will run from January 2020 to December 2022.

Our employees are a passionate force for good and over this three year partnership we are committed to raising as much money as possible. We have set ourselves the ambitious goal of raising £100,000 per year of the partnership.

Fundraising

To support men and their families now and future generations, we aim to raise £100,000 each year of our partnership, with a total of £300,000 over the three years.

The money raised will help fund charity activities including the best research, improvements in healthcare, quality support services and help drive change with policymakers.

All this supports our employees, our communities and our customers.

Employee engagement

Empowering our people to be a force for good by sharing their own personal experiences of prostate cancer to help others and to have life-saving conversations, spreading the charity’s key messages far and wide.

The partnership is a chance for all employees to learn about the prostate and what it is, to learn about prostate cancer and the work being done by the charity. We are hosting lunch and learn sessions, information stands, games and quizzes and workshops with our key Charity Champion fundraisers.

We aim to engage with all employees across our business so they feel personally connected to the cause.

Other collaborations

We'll explore opportunities to collaborate, such as:

  • The Blue Lab Innovation programme to work together to problem solve, work creatively and productively.
  • Explore involving the BAME Network to help with recruitment for the Prostate Cancer UK PROFILE trial and reach high risk groups.
  • Sign-posting our Cancer Support Network to the support services offered by the charity such as their Specialist Nurses.
  • Raise awareness / funds for the charity through customer-facing assets.
  • Spreading the charity’s key health messages even further by involving our contract partners in awareness talks.
