Save money and insulate your home through the Great British Insulation Scheme

We're in the process of finalising the details of our scheme. In the meantime, you can leave your details below and register your interest.  We'll be in touch once we launch!

What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is designed to be complementary to the current ECO scheme, which is known as ECO4. The scheme will help install energy efficient measures that will lower your energy usage and save you money on bills. The scheme will launch by Summer 2023 and run until March 2026. The government believe the scheme will save households around £310 a year.(1)

How will the Great British Insulation Scheme help lower my bills?

Making our homes more energy efficient is the best way of cutting household energy use and reducing heating bills.

Insulation measures are included in this scheme and will help reduce heat loss and save money on your heating costs. This is because insulation keeps heat from escaping through your loft, windows and walls.

Who's eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme?

Under the new Great British Insulation Scheme there will be two groups with different eligibility criteria, the general group and the low-income eligibility group. These groups will receive different levels of support.

To be eligible for the general group, you must:

  • be an existing EDF customer
  • live in a home that falls within Council Tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and A-E in Wales
  • have an EPC rating of D or below

If you're eligible, you may receive a single insulation measure. This group does not include the private renter sector.

To be eligible for the low-income eligibility group you must:

  • be an existing EDF customer
  • receive means-tested benefits
  • have an EPC rating of D or below

If you're eligible, you may receive a single insulation measure.

Properties with EPC ratings of F and G in the private rented sector will not be eligible for insulation measures. However, properties with EPC ratings of D and E can receive insulation measures, but heating control measures will not be installed.

Here are some of the measures we'll offer under The Great British Insulation Scheme

loft insulation roll in attic

Loft insulation

Did you know that a typical home without insulation can lose 25% of its heat through its roof?

Adding insulation to your loft will help you keep your home warm, wasting less energy and lowering your home's carbon emissions.

a worker attaches a tube to a brick wall to inject insulation

Cavity wall insulation

Cavity wall insulation is one of the best and most affordable ways to improve your home's energy efficiency.

Insulating the cavity space between the outside and inside wall adds a barrier to stop the cold from coming in and heat from escaping.

Yes, we're only offering The Great British Insulation Scheme to existing customers.

Is funding available for privately rented and social housing?

Yes, funding is also available to both social housing and landlords – provided the tenants meet certain criteria, such as earning a low income and living in a property with an EPC rating that's D or below.

What measure will I get and from who?

EDF works with a network of fully accredited installers who will assess your property to determine which measure is appropriate.

Why do you only install certain insulation measures and not others?

We aim to install single low-cost insulation measures to households rather than multi measures. Alternative types of insulation are more costly and can take longer to install.

What if I'm not eligible?

Even if you don't qualify for either group's eligibility criteria, you can still opt to pay for insulation. We're here to assist you in arranging for the installation of loft and/or cavity wall insulation in your home.
