What type of meter suits your business?

Below is a brief description of the three main types of electricity meter. If you would like some advice about which one to choose, please call us on 0333 200 5103 (1). We're open Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.

Single rate meter

Mainly office hours?

Also known as a standard meter, the single meter has one unit price for all hours of the day or night. It is best for:

  • Businesses that use electricity mainly between 8am-10pm, Monday to Friday
  • Offices, shops and cafés

Two-rate meter

Midnight until 8am?

The two-rate meter, also known as Economy 7 or Evening Weekend meter:

  • Has two unit prices, one of which is for a set period of time that has a cheaper off peak unit price
  • Is designed for businesses using most of their electricity between 12am (midnight) and 8am
  • Is ideal for bakeries, takeaways or if you have night storage heaters

Three-rate meter

Evenings and weekends?

The three-rate meter, also known as Evening, Weekend and Night, has three unit prices, including discounted unit prices for two set periods of time. It's ideal for:

  • Businesses that use electricity at night and weekends
  • Pubs, nightclubs and restaurants
